SOLD OUT BOTH DATES – One Man Show – “A Christmas Carol”
Dec 4 @ 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm

The great-great-grandson of the literary legend Charles Dickens, British actor Gerald Charles Dickens will present a one-man theatrical performance of his ancestor’s classic work A Christmas Carol here at the mansion on Saturday, December 4, and Sunday, December 5, 2021 at 3:00 pm. An elegant tea will follow.

Using his own adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic Christmas tale, Gerald plays 26 characters using his vocal and physical talents to bring each scene vividly to life.  In 1993, he created as his first one-man show, A Christmas Carol, inspired by Charles’ own energetic readings of the 1860s in the United States and elsewhere.

Gerald’s performance of A Christmas Carol has received standing ovations the world over: “The audience was rapt, as it was in Charles’ day!”  “Not a reading or a dramatization but the best of both.”  “Dickens the actor gets full value from Dickens the writer.”  “A Dickens of a performance.”

Gerald Dickens has been performing one-man stage shows based on the life and works of his ancestor for over twenty years, undertaking major tours of both the UK and America each year. As part of his performance of the atmospheric ghost story The Signalman, Gerald began to research the circumstances behind the Staplehurst rail crash of June 9, 1865 which led to his writing of a new book, Dickens and Staplehurst, which we hope to have available for purchase at this event.

Tickets for A Christmas Carol and the tea are $60. Ventfort Hall will be in full Christmas Regalia! Reservations are required and can be made by calling (413) 637-3206. Please note that all tickets are nonrefundable and non-exchangeable. Payment is required to make a reservation for an event.  Proof of vaccination, ID and masks are required.

Dec 19 @ 3:30 pm

Please join us for a festive and fun afternoon on Sunday, December 19 at 3:30 pm. The mansion will be beautifully decorated for the holiday season. A lovely tea shall follow the program.

Celebrate the season with a Holiday Cabaret performed by singer Sherri James Buxton with Bob Shepherd accompanying on the beautiful rosewood, six foot Steinway, recently returned to the museum from the Morgan family.

The program will feature seasonal songs from Broadway musicals and the Great American Songbook as well as traditional favorites and some audience participation. There will be a sing along of traditional carols including The Twelve Days of Christmas with parts to 12 (or more) audience members.

Sherri James Buxton is an elegant interpreter of a wide range of genres from standards and show tunes to jazz, delighting audiences with her warmth, depth, versatility and flawless technique. She combines a lifelong love of melody and lyric with a highly skilled voice and beautiful stage presence. If you’ve heard a Buxton performance of a song, you’ve heard that song’s definitive interpretation. Sherri has appeared on and off Broadway, and in numerous cabaret venues. She was in the original Broadway production of “Look to the Lilies” and has performed at The Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera and Kansas City Starlight Theatre. Locally she has appeared at the Pittsfield Jazz Festival and her jazz group, the Sherri James Buxton Trio, was the main attraction in the Cranwell Resort “Music Room” supper club. Sherri has also performed at The Colonial Theatre, The Norman Rockwell Museum, The Berkshire Athenaeum, The Gateways Inn, Mission Bar and Tapas, Castle Street Café and the Seven Hills Cabaret.
