As of July 29, 2025, the Gardener’s Cottage — once the residence of John Huss, the original landscape and garden architect of Ventfort Hall — is back in the estate of Ventfort Hall.
This little Gardener’s Cottage has lived a private life beyond our gates since the 1940’s. But this June, we were granted first right of refusal for its quiet, off-market sale. And we said yes—with full hearts, no budget, and soil-ready hands! We’ve developed a phased plan for repair, revitalization, and reintegration, with the Gardener’s Cottage currently envisioned as a short-term guest rental—one that supports its own care while welcoming visitors into the living roots of Ventfort Hall.
We invite you to be part of this blooming legacy in spirit, in presence, and in love. Roll your sleeves up and come find us in the garden! Scroll to the bottom of the page to make a financial contribution.
We are also in search of the following items for the Cottage:
- Kitchenwares and linens
- Window treatments and rods for all rooms
- A long table for under the windows and over the kitchen radiator
- A new washable rug for in front of the sink
- Period accurate and reproduction art for the Dining Room

- An armchair for Bedroom 1
- Small wooden dressers, end tables, small period bookcase
